WORLD TEACHERS' DAY 2014

There are countless definitions of heroes today. Is it a superstar who used his fame and fortune to help the needy in his hometown? Is it a firefighter who sees no danger in all circumstances just to save lives of people? Is it an Overseas Filipino Worker who is ready to bear the pain of being alone just to provide his family a comfortable life? But what really makes a person a hero?

There are heroes and heroines, national and local. Some of them are born, others are made. Many are still living while many others have long been gone. It is to the latter that monuments and museums were built to keep alive their memories in our hearts and mind. Public buildings, parks and plazas, streets and few cities and provinces have been named after them. Important dates and events are usually marked red in the calendar to remind us of their birth or death anniversary. During the celebration of these events, program speakers take turns extolling to high heavens whatever good they had done for the country.

But behind all these great people are strong foundations that guide, develop, and mold them all throughout. They are the teachers!  What else can we think of when teachers are mentioned? Their understanding, hardships, advices and care for us students. And of course, lectures new lessons, quizzes and assignments! Those memories when they came about to tell stories and jokes with us students. Their “sermons” to us during times when we were disobedient, or lazy to pass our assignments. Their continuous patience and hard works really seem unfolded.

However, education is one of the greatest gift mankind can ever receive. It is vital to anybody. What could be in a school without our teachers? There would be no students as well that in fact, students will not be able to go to school and learn what they are supposed to learn. There will be ignorance. Having our teachers we were able to learn and understand things easier and quicker.

2014 Science Club Month Celebration

All educational institutions across the country, from preschools to tertiary schools are celebrating during September the National Science Club Month (NSCM).

The theme for this year’s National Science Club celebration is, Immunization: Arming Science Clubbers with Healthful Defenses toward National Wellness.

It is a play on words on ammunization and immunization. “We would like our science clubbers to be armed to be immune against diseases through imparting knowledge about disease, how they spread, etc.”, said NSCM. The goal is not only the science clubbers that benefit from this knowledge but also their school and communities and thus leading to National Wellness.

Immunization is a way of protecting against serious diseases. Once we have been immunized, our bodies are better able to fight these diseases if we come into contact with them.

Modern Day Hero

In everyone’s life there are people who mean a lot to them but, every once in a while someone even more unique comes along. This is a person who you can call a “hero”. A hero is someone who has made a difference in my life, and it is obvious to the people around our family. She is my mom.
December 26 in the year 2006 was the most tragic day of my life. My mom died. I didn’t even know that the last time I told her I love her so much was one of the remaining hours of her life. If I only knew that she would be gone for that day, I would hold her until her last breath. If only I was at the right age then, I must have told her what I’m feeling right now for her. How I wish she’s here with me, guiding and giving pieces of advice as I face challenges of my life. I would have felt how a mother’s love is.
Mother’s love is the greatest unconditional and infinite love we will ever experience. So love your mother while there’s a time and she’s there with you because you will surely miss her when she’s gone.
